Sample Sand Ceremony

______________________ you have just sealed your relationship by your vows and the giving and receiving of rings. This covenant is a relationship pledge between two people who agree that they will commit themselves to one another throughout their lives. The most beautiful example of this partnership is the marriage relationship. You have committed here tonight, to share the rest of your lives with each other.

This evening, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of two individual containers of sand. The individual sand colors represent your own personalities and individuality As you pour the sand colors together into the unity bottle... you are creating a symbol of your love and life together... now uniquely shaped and shared as one entity... the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be a beautiful combination of all that each of you are together. May each of your lives be so much richer and fuller because of your sharing and flowing with each other.

Your sand ceremony is also a sign of your connection to others beyond yourself. As there are grains of sand on a beach, let us remember we live in a community of family and friends, who support you with their love and who enrich your lives with the gifts of their enthusiasm. May you always reciprocate in sharing your abundant love and caring.

Roses or Wedding Flower Ceremony to Mother’s or special loved ones:
To honor this family unity and support, _______________________will present beautiful orchids to the mothers of the families being joined here through this union. May the generations come together this day to celebrate family and to hold the joy and love in which you two start your lives together. In love, ___________ and _____________greet the family members who pledge to support, love and honor you. Present the orchids to your mother’s who have developed the message of love and family in your hearts since you were children. Let them know you will carry this message as they have done.

Your sand ceremony and your flower ceremony are both also signs of your connection to others beyond yourself. As there are grains of sand on a beach, and petals on a flower, let us remember we live in a community of family and friends, who support you with their love and who enrich your lives with the gifts of their enthusiasm. May you always reciprocate in sharing your abundant love and caring.
